Starting from October 1st, a new visa policy - the K visa - has been officially implemented in our country. This policy adds the K visa to the ordinary visa categories and is issued to foreign young scientific and technological talents entering the country. It aims to facilitate the entry of foreign young scientific and technological talents to China and promote international cooperation and exchanges among young scientific and technological talents.

On August 7th, the "Decision of the State Council on Amending the Regulations of the People's Republic of China on the Administration of the Entry and Exit of Aliens" was announced, making two amendments to the "Regulations of the People's Republic of China on the Administration of the Entry and Exit of Aliens": First, a new K visa category was added to the types of ordinary visas stipulated in the regulations, specifically for foreign young scientific and technological talents entering the country. Second, it was stipulated that applicants for the K visa should meet the conditions and requirements for foreign young scientific and technological talents as prescribed by the relevant competent authorities of the Chinese government and submit the corresponding supporting documents.

The person in charge of the relevant department stated that the K visa is issued to young foreign scientific and technological talents who have graduated from well-known domestic and foreign universities or research institutions in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics and obtained the corresponding academic degree certificates (bachelor's degree or above), or who have been engaged in related professional education and scientific research in these institutions. Compared with the existing 12 types of ordinary visas, the K visa will provide more conveniences for the visa holders in terms of the number of entries, validity period and duration of stay. After entering the country, the visa holders can engage in exchanges and activities in the fields of education, science and technology, culture, as well as entrepreneurship and business.

In addition, the K visa only has specific requirements for age, educational background or work experience, and does not require a domestic employer or inviting organization. The application process will also be more convenient.

In recent years, China has continuously introduced visa facilitation measures to make it easier for more foreign friends to come to China for business, tourism, work, study and life. In December last year, the National Immigration Administration comprehensively optimized the visa-free transit policy, extending the visa-free transit stay period for foreigners to 10 days and increasing the number of applicable provinces to 24. As of July 17 this year, China has achieved full mutual visa exemption with 29 countries and unilateral visa exemption for 46 countries, with the circle of visa-free countries continuously expanding. Data from the National Immigration Administration shows that from January to August this year, 15.89 million foreigners entered China visa-free, accounting for 62.1% of all foreign entries, an increase of 52.1% year-on-year.
