Notes on applying for the Five Star Card

The "Five Star Card" is a permanent residence permit in China, equivalent to a green card in the United States. As we all know, it is not so easy to get it. China green card is the most difficult green card in the world, the application requirements are harsh, foreigners want to get a green card in China need to give up their original nationality, which also includes health, no criminal record certificate, and background checks, the application time may be up to 5 years or 10 years. This article summarizes some notes about applying for permanent residence in China, hope it will be helpful to you.

First, before applying, we first understand the way to apply for permanent residence in China

1、Investment category: direct investment in China, stable investment for three consecutive years and good tax records; and

2、Occupation category: those who have served in China as deputy general manager, deputy factory director and other positions or have the title of associate professor, associate researcher and other deputy senior titles and enjoy the same treatment, and have served for four years consecutively, and have resided in China for a total of not less than three years within four years and have a good tax record; 3、Outstanding contribution category: those who have made significant and outstanding contributions to China.

3、Outstanding Contribution Category: those who have made significant and outstanding contributions to China and are in special need of the country.

4、Spouse Reunion Category: Spouses of Chinese citizens or foreigners who have obtained the permanent residence status in China, whose marital relationship has existed for five years, who have resided in China for five consecutive years, who have resided in China for not less than nine months each year, and who have a stable living security and residence; and

5. Children reunion: one or both parents are permanent residents of China, under 18 years old and unmarried, and have been recognized as having foreign nationality.

6. Relative Dependency: those who have no immediate relatives outside China and depend on their immediate relatives in China, who are over 60 years old, have resided in China for five consecutive years, reside in China for not less than nine months each year, and have stable livelihood security and residence.

Second, after understanding several types of application pathways for permanent residence in China and confirming that you meet the application requirements for permanent residence after the initial assessment, you have to start applying for it, and the following are the points to note in the application process:

1、Plan the time to cancel the hukou

Chinese applicants need to cancel their hukou before they can apply for a green card, so they need to plan the time to cancel their hukou. Before canceling the hukou, the applicant needs to provide proof of hukou, so prepare the relevant documents early.

2、Provide true and effective materials

Providing true and effective materials is the key to the success of the green card application. To provide a certificate of no criminal record, marriage certificate, birth certificate, proof of kinship, etc., must be certified by the Chinese Embassy or Consulate abroad to avoid problems in the review process.

3、Able to attend the on-site interview

The Exit-Entry Administration of Public Security Organs will require the applicant to submit supplementary materials and conduct an on-site interview during the examination process, and the application will be withdrawn if the applicant is unable to attend the on-site interview for any reason. Therefore, it is important to avoid temporary emergencies that prevent the applicant from attending the interview.

4、Confirm that the applicant meets the eligibility requirements

Before submitting the green card application, you need to confirm whether the applicant meets the eligibility requirements. For example, a couple reunion green card requires the preparation of a notarized rental or purchase contract as well as a bank deposit of not less than 200,000 to ensure that the applicant meets the eligibility criteria, so as to avoid finding out that he or she does not meet the eligibility criteria in the later stage of the audit.

5. Answer questions accurately in the on-site interview

In the interview, the applicant needs to answer the questions of the auditing officials, to ensure that the answers are accurate, no discrepancies, to avoid the application failure due to inaccurate answers.

6、Prepare sufficient supplementary materials

In addition to the basic materials, supplementary materials need to be prepared, such as copies of the couple's shared medical insurance, copies of the couple's joint bank card, tax returns, and family group photos. Supplementary materials should be organized in strict accordance with the regulations, standardize the quality, and submit them after confirming that they are correct.
