Xi 'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning established in China and enjoys a good reputation both at home and abroad. It is a key university directly under the Administration of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. It is a comprehensive research university with science and technology characteristics, covering 10 disciplines, and known as the "MIT" in the East. The university is one of the key construction units in the 7th and 8th Five-year Plans. It is among the first group of universities to be included in the national "211" and "985" projects, and is listed in the national "Double First-class" construction list of a-class construction universities. Eight disciplines are selected as first-class construction disciplines.
