1.Who is eligible?

Issued to young foreign nationals with a bachelor's degree or above in STEM from renowned universities or research institutions, or young STEM educators or researchers at such institutions. "Young" is generally understood as ages 18–35, subject to the specific criteria of Chinese authorities and embassies—no domestic employer needed.

2.Key advantages

No domestic employer or inviting party required; the application process is more convenient. K visa holders are offered more convenience in terms of the number of entries, validity period, and duration of stay compared to the other 12 ordinary visa types (multiple-entry available, validity up to 5 years, maximum stay of 180 days per entry). Upon entry, K visa holders are permitted to engage in activities in fields such as education, science and technology, and cultural exchanges, as well as entrepreneurial and business activities. Direct full-time employment is not permitted — those seeking employment must convert to a Z-visa and obtain a work permit first; otherwise, it constitutes illegal employment.

Innovation and entrepreneurship: Qinchuangyuan, Xi'an High-tech Zone, and Xixian New Area can use the K-visa to invite young talent with projects to Shaanxi for scouting and collaboration, eliminating upfront HR costs;

In-country conversion: Once employed, holders can convert to a work-type residence permit and obtain a work permit at Xi'an PSB exit-entry authorities — no exit required; those meeting Class A criteria may apply for 5-year residence or permanent residence;
