On December 1, a new version of the permanent residence ID card for foreigners of the People's Republic of China was officially issued and put into use. Due to the addition of the five-star element reflecting the national identity, the new permanent residence ID card for foreigners is called the "five-star card". On the first day, a total of 50 foreigners who have obtained permanent residence status in China received the first batch of "five-star cards". They come from more than 20 countries, including the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, Sweden, Singapore and the Republic of Korea, and have made outstanding contributions to China's economic and social development in various fields, including economy, education, science and technology, culture and health.

According to the relevant person in charge of the Immigration Administration, the "five-star card" is issued by the National Immigration Administration and is a legal identity document for foreigners who have been approved for permanent residence in China. The holder can be used alone as a personal identification document in the event of a need to prove personal identity, without having to produce his/her foreign passport. The "five-star card" optimizes the storage method of certificate information, beautifies the layout, adopts more advanced anti-counterfeiting technology, and enhances the protection of personal information and data security. The National Immigration Administration, together with relevant departments, will vigorously promote the adaptive upgrading of application systems, facilities and equipment in relevant industries, so as to facilitate the use of holders in public services such as transportation, living consumption, financial communications, government services and Internet platforms.

The relevant person in charge of the National Immigration Administration said that the issuance and use of the "five-star card" is an important measure for the National Immigration Administration to ensure a high level of national openness and improve the level of information management services for foreigners in China, which is conducive to better serving overseas talents to invest in China, develop innovation and work and life, and make more contributions to the high-quality development of China's economy and society.
