On December 1, a new version of the permanent residence ID card for foreigners of the People's Republic of China was officially issued and put into use. Due to the addition of the five-star element reflecting the national identity, the new permanent residence ID card for foreigners is called the "five-star card". On the first day, a total of 50 foreigners who have obtained permanent residence status in China received the first batch of "five-star cards". They come from more than 20 countries, including the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, Sweden, Singapore and the Republic of Korea, and have made outstanding contributions to China's economic and social development in various fields, including economy, education, science and technology, culture and health. According to the relevant person in charge of the Immigration Administration, the "five-star card" is issued by the National Immigration Administration and is a legal identity document for foreigners who have been approved for permanent residence in China. The holder can be used alone as a personal identification document in the event of a need to prove personal identity, without having to produce his/her foreign passport.
