For many foreigners who are already in China, they must apply for a work visa if they want to work in China. However, in general, foreigners cannot apply for a work visa directly in China. 1. Personnel with senior management or technical positions employed by central enterprises and secondary subsidiaries, global or regional headquarters of Fortune 500 enterprises, national high-tech enterprises (recognized by science and technology departments at or above the provincial level), and large enterprises.

2. Personnel with senior management or technical positions who work in the enterprise engineering research center (identified by the development and reform department), engineering laboratory (identified by the development and reform department), engineering technology research center (identified by the science and technology department), enterprise technology center (identified by the information technology department) and local technology innovation service platform (identified by the science and technology department).

3. The chairman, legal representative, general manager or chief technical expert employed by the domestic and foreign medium-sized enterprises with senior management or technical positions or by the small foreign-invested enterprises that meet the encouraged industries in the Catalogue for the Guidance of Foreign Investment Industries and the entries in the Catalogue of Foreign Investment Advantage Industries in the Central and Western Regions.

4. Personnel who have been employed as senior or higher management positions in institutions of higher learning or scientific research institutions, or associate professors, associate researchers, and senior lecturers, senior internship instructors and other professional and technical positions at deputy senior or higher levels employed by vocational colleges.

5. Personnel who are employed by domestic tertiary general hospitals or municipal specialized hospitals or foreign-funded hospitals at or above the provincial level to hold senior management positions or professional and technical positions at or above the deputy senior level.

6. The chief conductor, artistic director and chief performer employed by domestic first-class orchestra and other art groups.

7. The chief editor, deputy chief editor, chief announcer, senior host, planning director, layout design director and other personnel with senior management or technical positions appointed by the central and local mainstream media.

8. Main athletes, head coaches or core members of the coaching team hired by national and provincial sports teams or clubs.

9. Foreign talents whose average wage income is no less than 6 times the average social wage income of the region in the previous year.
